The event is owned by the Rotorua Mountain Bike Club, with proceeds supporting the Mark Dunlop Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship, set up in the memory of the Rotorua local, helps riders take their racing to the next level. Past recipients include Robin Goomes, who recently took gold at Red Bull Rampage with two successful backflips and a 41-foot drop. This year, the $10,000 grant was split between two rising stars, Kate Hastings and Asher Hart, giving them the opportunity to gain valuable overseas racing experience. The event also celebrates riders of all levels, offering a unique mix of competitive yet social racing. Whether chasing podiums or just enjoying a day on world-class trails with mates, the Giant 2W Enduro continues to be a highlight of the New Zealand mountain biking calendar, and a drawcard to Rotorua and its world-class forests and trails.
