EWS Qualifier:

Race 2 of the 2016-17 Giant 2W Gravity Enduro series on Saturday 10th December 2016 is an official 2016 Enduro World Series (EWS) Qualifier event for the upcoming 2017 EWS season.

Race 3 of the 2016-17 Giant 2W Gravity Enduro series on Saturday 11th February 2017 is an official 2017 Enduro World Series (EWS) Qualifier event for the following 2018 EWS season.

As with prize money this season, EWS qualification points will be awarded to riders racing the six stage non-shuttled event category.

There are 19 Qualifier Events around the world in 2016 and 40 Qualifier Events in 2017. Enduro Mountain Bike Association (EMBA) members competing in any one of the will be awarded qualifier ranking points if they are placed highly enough. Throughout the year each rider’s points will increase as they do more and more qualifier events. At the end of the year, each rider’s best 3 Qualifier results will be tallied and final year-end ranking will be created. The top 15 x U21, 80 x Open Men, 30 x Open Women, and 20 x Master riders on this year-end ranking will be added to the Reserve List for the following year’s EWS, giving them a few days to enter any EWS event they like and avoiding the general entry public lottery.

Southstar Youth Enduro Championship:

Race 2 of the season will also double as the first ever Youth Enduro Champs. To support the grassroots development of the sport and help breed many future generation of Enduro riders, we have teamed up Southstar Shuttles Rotorua to recognize the top 5 school aged shredders in the country in each age division.
Note: Riders must enter the four stage event category to compete in the Youth Enduro Championship. They cannot race the 6 Stage (Shuttled or Non-Shuttled) event category and have times in stages A-D count towards the Youth Enduro Championship. We cannot have riders entered, compete in two event categories and be eligible for prizes in both.

Let’s Ride Parent & Offspring Family Challenge:

At each race this season, competing parents and their Under 13 yr old off-spring (regardless of Event Category entered – i.e., four or six stage) will be able to fill in an extra form at the race pack pick-up to enter the Family Challenge for free.  On race day both the parent’s and offspring’s times on race stages A, B, C & D will be added together.  The parent and offspring with the lowest total combined time win the Family Challenge and be awarded a special prize sponsored by Lets Ride. A parent and offspring pair may only win the Family Challenge once, thereafter allowing other family pairings to compete for the win in subsequent races.

Under 23 Local Enduro Scholarship

With the help of some generous local businessmen, the Under 23 Local Enduro Scholarship has been set-up to assist promising riders from Rotorua chase their Mtb goals and realise their potential in the sport of Mountain Biking. It is intended to give such riders a helping hand by funding international travel to compete in Enduro and World Cup mountain bike races overseas in the season ahead. Ultimately the scholarship investors would love to assist in cultivating local riders so they have the best opportunity to secure a professional team rider contact and craft a career in the sport for many years.

To help those who make the decision who will receive future scholarships at coming Giant 2W Gravity Enduro races, we would like all local Rotorua Under 23yr old mountain bike riders (in the sports of Enduro, DH, XC and Off-road Triathlon etc.) to complete the attached short scholarship interest form and fire it back to us. It’s not an arduous process, simply tell us your personal details, let us know what you’re coming international racing plans are this season, what your goals are at these events and what your future aspirations are in the sport.  Easy ha!  All submissions must be in no later than 14 days prior the next race to put you in the running.
